A little about us

Sew, how did this all come about…..?

School of Sew was born in 2016. As the driving force behind the business, co-founder Nicola Lee was keen to put her considerable experience (30 years and counting!) of the sewing industry to positive use and do her bit to ensure that the art of sewing is passed on to as many people as possible. With the huge boom in home crafting, retro styling and the desire to learn new skills at an all time, the School of Sew opened its doors in April 2016 and hasn’t looked back since. With its unrivalled passion for all things sewing, the School of Sew is open to anyone - regardless of age, skill level and competence. The School serves not only to rekindle a long lost love of sewing for those who might not have picked up a needle in years but to teach new generations a valuable, practical and hugely enjoyable life skill.

First came the home-baking revival, which was swiftly followed by home sewing and dressmaking. It’s very much the view of the School of Sew that important ‘retro’ skills such sewing and dressmaking are definitely not a fad and are here to stay! Over 200 students who have passed through the doors of the School of Sew are living proof of this.

Millions of people all over the country now count running up their own clothes as a hobby - sales of sewing and knitting patterns continue to soar with sewing machines one of the must have pieces of kit in the home as sales continue to increase year on year.

“Lockdown 2020 has shown us that many people have turned to sewing and crafting as a way of passing the time and are absolutely loving their new found interest.” - Nicola Lee
